We started the Branding unit with a series of workshops where we had to create the brand identity for an Imaginary company.
The name of the company was created using an online name blender - this created multiple amalgamations of our first & last names (some of my favourites were: Marmalo, Malma, Mala, Marney, Maea) but I chose to work with the word 'Malma' as it sounded the most suitable for a company.
I chose to base my brand around Alternative Fashion & explored this further by looking at existing companies with styles & aesthetics similar to my desired outcome. The brand values I focused on were Sustainability, Quality and Expression.
I began my experimentation by creating different type based logos for the company. I started by using existing fonts & manipulating these in various ways. The logo I decided to use was from a font that I designed & drew freehand and then recreated digitally in Illustrator. I also added additional visual elements to create more of a concept around the logo.
When I began animating the logo I wanted it to have a dark, glitchy / distorted look as I felt this would correspond well with the brand. The spears that were included in the design also helped me to envision how it would look when animated.
